As a Black woman in the beauty industry, my journey with OKOKO Cosmétiques has been deeply personal, shaped by a desire to create something that not only delivers results but also resonates with people from all walks of life. Growing up, I was often reminded of the lack of representation in the beauty world, especially for women of color, and I knew that had to change. My goal from the beginning was clear: to build a brand that empowers and uplifts, while delivering luxurious, high-performance skincare for all skin types.
From Vision to Reality The idea behind OKOKO Cosmétiques wasn’t just about creating skincare, it was about offering people something meaningful. I wanted to develop a line that celebrated diversity and provided products that work, no matter your skin type or tone. It became a passion project born from my own experiences and the realization that there were limited options for women like me, especially in the luxury space. After years of research and development, I launched OKOKO with a focus on formulas that are both indulgent and effective. Each product embodies my belief that everyone deserves to feel seen and represented in the beauty space.
Navigating the Challenges The road to building OKOKO wasn’t easy, and like many entrepreneurs, I faced challenges along the way. The beauty industry, as you know, has traditionally been dominated by a few, and as a Black woman, I faced barriers that tested my strength and commitment. Securing funding, making industry connections, and pushing through preconceived notions were hurdles I had to overcome. But these challenges became powerful lessons in resilience and determination. I’ve always believed that every challenge is an opportunity to grow, and that mindset has carried me through even the toughest moments.
Redefining Beauty Standards One of my core missions with OKOKO is to challenge outdated beauty standards. Beauty is not one-size-fits-all—it is as diverse and vibrant as the people who define it. I wanted OKOKO to reflect that philosophy, which is why we are committed to creating skincare that addresses a wide range of needs across various skin types and tones. We focus on high-quality, proven ingredients that not only deliver results but also offer an experience of self-care and indulgence. Inclusivity is at the heart of everything we do, from the way we formulate our products to how we engage with our community.
Inspiring a New Generation of Entrepreneurs Mentorship is something I hold close to my heart, and I’m passionate about supporting and inspiring the next generation of women entrepreneurs, especially in the beauty industry. Through workshops, community initiatives, and personal mentorship, I share the lessons I’ve learned in the hopes that other women can find their own paths to success.
